The Educator

Maria, an optometrist and faculty member at the Universidad Santo Thomas, Bucaramanga, Colombia, attended an optometry education workshop at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN).

An agreement with Colombian universities, La Salle University and Santo Tomas University, developed to support optometry development in the region, enables lecturers to attend other universities and deliver workshops.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity and rather proud to belong to a group of professionals who are helping to strengthen the profession in our region. I also think it is important to acknowledge all the years of hard work and dedication by the optometry professors and educators at UNAN and the Institute, in developing and promoting the education of optometry.

“I believe the optometry education workshops are important to the future of optometry in Latin America. The teaching methods and information will provide us with innovative techniques to engage with students, while at the same time, promoting optometry education in the region,” said Maria.

The Latin America & Caribbean optometry development program was sponsored by Optometry Giving Sight.
